Benjamin Moore 2016 Color of the Year: Simply White

Color Trends white room Simply White

Sometimes, Benjamin Moore goes with a “lighter  touch” in its annual Color Trend Forecast. Like last year, when Guilford Green was the 2015 Color of the Year.  Or 2014, when they went with a light blue, Breath of Fresh Air. But this year, it’s simply white. Or “Simply White OC – 117” to be exact.

“We try and infuse color theory and color appreciation into the trend book every year,” says Benjamin Moore creative director Ellen O’Neill. “We thought white is the silent hero here. Why not white.”

“It was the most neutral, and it was very constant in various light sources,” explained Priscilla Chaznavi, Benjamin Moore color and design director, focusing on the complexity of the color. “We have over 250 whites in our catalog. Who better to serve up the options of white than Benjamin Moore?”

“White has always been a hugely important color in architecture. It’s able to exhibit the shadows, the darks, to help us appreciate the forms of the shapes itself,” says Andrea Magno, manager of Benjamin Moore’s Color & Design Studio. “White is a perfect way to define a space  in a really beautiful and sophisticated way.”
