Bedding

Creating a layered bedding look can bring warmth, texture, and visual interest to your bedroom. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to achieve this look:

1. Start with a Fitted Sheet

  • Choose the right fabric: Start with a well-fitting, soft fitted sheet that matches your bed’s size. Cotton or linen are great for breathability, while flannel is ideal for cooler months.
  • Tuck it in properly: Make sure the sheet is smoothly tucked into the corners for a neat, clean foundation.

2. Add a Flat Sheet

  • Add a soft, crisp flat sheet: Place a flat sheet over the fitted sheet. You can fold it over the duvet or comforter at the top edge for a neat appearance. For extra warmth, opt for a thicker flat sheet in a cozy fabric like flannel or a soft cotton blend.

3. Place a Duvet or Comforter

  • Choose the right weight: A duvet or comforter should add warmth and a luxurious feel. Opt for one with a weight appropriate for the season—lighter for summer, heavier for winter.

  • Consider color and texture: Neutral or muted tones can create a calm, serene look, while bold or patterned duvets add more personality. Consider one with a textured fabric like velvet or linen for added interest.

4. Layer with Throws

  • Add a cozy throw blanket: Layer a throw blanket across the foot of the bed. This can be a heavier wool or knitted throw for winter or a lighter cotton throw for warmer months. Experiment with patterns, colors, and textures to create contrast and depth.

  • Add some movement: Drape the throw casually, allowing the ends to hang down for an effortless look.

5. Pile on Pillows

  • Start with sleeping pillows: Use pillows in pillowcases that match your sheets for a clean, simple look. Arrange them neatly at the head of the bed.

  • Add decorative pillows: Layer in a variety of throw pillows with different textures, sizes, and shapes. Mix and match different fabrics like velvet, linen, or faux fur for a cozy feel. You can use a combination of large square pillows and smaller accent pillows.

  • Vary the patterns and colors: For a more curated look, play with contrasting patterns and colors, but keep a balance to avoid a chaotic look.

6. Consider a Bed Skirt (Optional)

  • Add a bed skirt or dust ruffle: A bed skirt helps cover the area under your bed and creates a more polished appearance. It can also be an additional layer of texture and color.

7. Finish with Soft Lighting

  • Add a soft glow: Using ambient lighting like bedside lamps with soft lampshades can enhance the cozy vibe of the layered bedding.

Tips for a Successful Layered Look:

  • Texture is key: Mix different textures (flannel, velvet, knit, linen, cotton) for added visual depth.

  • Play with proportions: Don’t be afraid to mix different pillow sizes, throw blankets, and layers of bedding.

  • Keep it balanced: Stick to a cohesive color palette or theme for a harmonious feel.

By following these steps and tips, you can create a beautifully layered and inviting bed that not only looks luxurious but is also super comfortable!
