Wallcovering Wednesday: New Williamsburg Prints

wallpapered wall

York’s newest wallpaper collection is inspired by the textiles, maps and architecture of Colonial Williamsburg. The “Trend Meets Tradition” collection fuses American craftsmanship with the international influences that accented homes in the era.

WILLIAMSBURG is the latest line licensed by Williamsburg Brands, drawing on the extensive design archive of the not-for-profit Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

Vice President of Design Ron Redding added the distinctive metallic finishes and textures that are signatures of his York collections. “As a life-long student of historic design, I consider my collaboration with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation to be one of the highlights of my career as a stylist at York Wallcoverings,” he told Home Accents Today.

WILLIAMSBURG offers a fresh take on 18th-century design, reimagining classic elements for today’s lifestyles. For example, Dinwiddie Damask (above) maintains the gracious aspect of the fabric that inspired it, a white silk damask woven in England or Europe. The original, used as a panel in a woman’s gown, is in the collections of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Dinwiddie Damask is available in matte cream on metallic golden beige, matte golden tan on metallic gold, and two more combinations.

Solomon’s Seal is based on copperplate-printed curtains in the collection of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. This botanical, depicting the flowers and seed pods in two colors on a solid backdrop, is open, airy, and quite large. Five selections include cream with teal and white, or cream with grey and black.

Perhaps the most stunning fusion of past and present is the mural of John Rocque’s London Map (below). The original map provided a detailed birds-eye view of London in the early 1740s. The mural matches the original’s size (8.5′ x 6.5′) and comes in either linen or metallic bronze.
