Friday Finds: A New Twist on Damask in Thibaut’s New Book

red damask wallcovering

The latest collection from Thibaut Design has a familiar name, but Damask Resource Vol. 4 features a unique style that starts with the traditional Damask pattern and then introduces new colorways and innovative print treatments. The dramatic designs range from classic interpretations to modern shapes in sizable proportions and include printed corks, embossed vinyl, luxurious metallics, and flocked patterns.

The symmetrical layout of Passaro Damask features birds and other grand scrolls with luxurious colorways, like Metallic Pewter on Seafoam and Metallic Gold on Red.

In the red, a truly happy color, the detail of the birds and foliage really stands out. Kathy Basil of our Hirshfield’s Design Studio recommended a pattern very similar to Passaro Damask in a small powder room recently, and she said it looks beautiful, with a very “luxe” feel.

Ashley Damask and French Quarter Damask also feature intricate patterns. Ashley is large, grand, elegant and modern, with a subtle white background stripe that gives the print depth and interest.

The French Quarter Damask pattern has a fascinating textured background that looks almost like reptile or snakeskin.

After debuting in Damask Resource Vol. 3, Curtis Damask makes another appearance in the new book. Thibaut carried over this popular Metallic Gold colorway and introduced three new and sophisticated colors in the new collection.

Curtis Damask is a regal wallcovering that’s all about the layers! First, foil is laminated to the paper. Then, pieces of cork are mounted on top of the foil. Finally, the damask pattern is printed with metallic on top. It’s an elaborate process, but it pays off with a luxurious, rich look.
