What is color drenching?
You’ve probably seen this on-trend take on color in your favorite lifestyle magazine or online — you know, room settings that stopped you in your scroll and made you look twice.
Captivating rooms that are “drenched” in just one color: walls, ceiling, trim, mouldings, doors and sometimes even floors, are painted in just one hue. There’s really no layering of complimentary colors happening in a color-drenched room.
There are two ways you can achieve a color drenched look in your home.
The first method is applying the same color everywhere in the room — no variations of the hue. With this style you can add visual interest by changing up your sheens; choose a flat finish for the walls, eggshell finish on the trim and satin on the doors. Same color, different sheens.
The second method for color drenching a room is to use one color, but add different hues of that color. If you choose blue as the main color, layer in two or three different blues. A medium blue for the walls; the trim and doors being a lighter blue with dark blue draperies. This method of color drenching creates a rich, monochromatic color scheme in the space.

Tips for Color Drenching:
Choose a color you love: This is a bold choice, so make sure you select a color that you love.
Consider the Room’s Function: The color you choose should complement the room’s purpose. For example, a calming color like blue might be ideal for a bedroom versus a vibrant red.
Experiment with Textures and Patterns: Introduce texture and pattern to add interest and depth to the space without distracting from the overall color scheme.
Start with a smaller room: For your first foray into color drenching you might want to start with a smaller room and not a living room. If you love the end result, move on up to a larger room.
Do a test sample: Make certain to test out your color in the room so you can see how the color plays with the lighting throughout the day.
Happy drenching or not, but always Happy Painting!
