Shades of Gray to Fit Any Room
There is quite the buzz in the air about the movie, 50 Shades of Grey, you can’t help but read about it, hear about it, and see it everywhere. People can’t seem to get enough of it. So welcome to 50 Shades of Gray – The Paint Edition.

Shades of Gray to Warm A Room
Shades of gray that work well in our cool climate are the warmer grays. These are the grays that have gold or brown undertones as compared to the blue undertones that tend to look too cool for our weather.
Hirshfield’s color expert, Mark Masica says grays work easily in most any room, “ I’m old school and about the only areas I would not use a gray would be in a nursery or young child’s room, where I still like the brighter, more playful colors.”
Mark says the most popular gray neutral color on websites such as Pinterest is Benjamin Moore’s HC-172, Revere Pewter, one of 31 grays in their Historical Colors. It is one of those colors that looks gray under some light but has the warm gold and brown undertones that work so well here in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota.

Mark’s shades of gray recommendations:
“Some of my favorites are the Hirshfield’s 0197 Thistle Gray, 0561 Indian Hills, 0574 Shark Fin, and 0532 Rand Moon,” he says. “In the Benjamin Moore line, I also like HC-169 Coventry Gray and 1551 La Paloma Gray.”
Other Opinions
Hirshfield’s Langdon Dove is a popular shade of gray at our Coon Rapids store, according to Kelly and Kaylene. “The black, brown and gold undertones create a lovely warm taupe,” they say. “It compliments many warm colors, especially the new Pantone color of the year Marsala (or Hirshfield’s Richardson Brick). Bring in the blue-grey of Metropolis Mood 0526, for a perfect trifecta.”
