Window Fashion Designer Dawn Feda has worked with Hirshfield’s Shop at Home division for more than 24 years and absolutely loves the work she does—helping homeowners find the window treatments that work best for their homes and for their lives.

What do you like best about being a designer?
I enjoy having the opportunity to solve my clients’ needs and challenges with their window treatments.
What kind of information about your clients will best help you help them with their project?
Pinpointing what their needs and wants are. Function is a key element when it comes to selecting an appropriate window treatment.
What’s your best advice for someone who wants to reconfigure a room in their home?
Keep the design clean and simple. Select the pieces that they may want to keep and pull out an accent color. Maybe introduce a focal wall with a “pop” of color and then add a window treatment that could add a statement to the room. I like to select new fabrics for the window treatments and accent pillows, which could be in a fun pattern or a textured solid.
What do you think will be trendy in home design in 2014?
A trend in the coming year will be having a clean neutral pallet of soft whites and grays, then adding a bold splash of color such as a vibrant orchid. In the fabrics we still see geometric and larger designs plus textured solids.
