About the Factory

Mark Eernisse, VP Operations, Hirshfield’s Paint Manufacturing

In August of 2018, Mark Eernisse accepted a position as VP of Operations at Hirshfield’s Paint Manufacturing.  He has come full circle with Hirshfield’s , as his career started as a part time stock person and eventually becoming a Hirshfield’s store manager.   Between his tenures, Mark worked for Valspar in various roles throughout the organization, his last role being National Sales Manager.  Mark has an extensive knowledge in the paint industry and is a valuable asset to the Hirshfield’s team.

Prior to his current role at HPM, Mark began his 30 year career with Hirshfield’s as a part time stock person and worked his way up to becoming a Hirshfield’s store manager. After working as a store manager, Mark worked for Valspar for 20 years in various roles, with his last role being National Sales Manager.

Mark graduated from Bethel University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management and Finance. Outside of his career, Mark is married with two children and enjoys golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Jason Boedigheimer, Director of Operations from 1998 – 2018, passed away December 11, 2018, following a 15-month battle with glioblastoma.

Jason graduated from Anoka High School in 1989 and went on to earn two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Saint John’s University (Chemistry and Biology) and an MBA from The University of Saint Thomas. Jason applied his education throughout a 20-year career at Hirshfield’s Paint Manufacturing where he served as Operations Manager/Technical Director. This long tenure reflected Jason’s appreciation for the family-owned company with a strong culture of tradition and ethics – elements that Jason strongly believed in and lived throughout his life.

As an active member of the community, Jason was a youth hockey coach (Anoka and Elk River) and — as a man of faith — a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. An avid outdoorsman, Jason loved spending time afield with family and friends. From the duck blind and pheasant fields to fishing and the family deer camp, Jason enjoyed the outdoors and sharing that time with those he cherished. He especially enjoyed traveling, camping, skiing, sailing, playing cribbage with his family and playing in the men’s hockey league that he organized and participated in until the time of his diagnosis.

Jason was a dog lover who seemed to attract the affection of any canine that came near him. Jason’s big-hearted nature, easy smile and dry wit were never far from the surface and his capacity for caring was quickly evident to anyone in his presence. A loyal friend, Jason forged deep bonds with his circle of friends and could be counted on to be there during good times and bad; for Jason valued those relationships and understood how precious they were. But above all, Jason was a family man – a father and husband whose pride for his children and devotion to his wife couldn’t be contained. A man who put family first, was always supportive and did all he could to show his family they were loved.

Jason often shared the reasons behind Hirshfield’s success. “There’s no skimping on raw materials when we formulate our products. We understand that our customers demand quality and value and have a lot of choices as to where they buy their paint. At Hirshfield’s, whether they’re a large commercial customer with big orders or a couple looking to paint their home, everyone gets top performing products with exceptional service and expert advice to match. We work closely with the painting professionals, listening to their needs and requirements. Being a local manufacturer gives us the opportunity to develop products for specific application challenges.”

Hirshfield’s was most fortunate to have had Jason as part of the Hirshfield family.

Hirshfield’s customers also get the latest innovations and technologies thanks to the company’s expansive lab that allows them to quickly adapt to market influences and preferences.

Today those preferences include environmentally friendly no VOC products such as Hirshfield’s ColorPro ZERO and Contractor Select Zero VOC. In addition, Hirshfield’s has never used crystalline silica, mercury, lead or any kind of carcinogenic material in any of their paint. “We want our paint to be as safe as possible for our employees, commercial applicators and homeowners who use our paint in their home,” says Boedigheimer.

But great products are just the beginning of Hirshfield’s commitment to excellence. They are also dedicated to sustainability and treading lightly to leave the smallest footprint possible on our environment using a closed loop system that includes saving wastewater for reuse.

“We live where we work,” concludes Boedigheimer. “It’s only natural that we’d want to serve our neighbors and communities with innovative, high quality and environmentally-friendly products made right here in Minnesota.”
