Faux Finishing Techniques: How to

Colorwashing is a simple decorative painting technique that gives walls a subtle texture and rich glow. . .

Combing is a specialty paint finish accomplished by applying a glaze over a base coat and then removing some of the wet glaze. . .

In dragging, a dry brush (or other tool) is pulled through a wet glaze, producing fine, blurry stripes of the base coat color showing through the glaze. . .

Marbleizing is a process of layering tinted glazes over a white or colored basecoat to create a marble like finish. This technique can be used on a variety of surfaces. . .

Rag rolling is a faux finishing technique that gives walls a rich and elegant look. The striking flow of textured color is achieved by applying a glaze which is then ragged off (or ragged on) using a crumpled up cloth. . .

You'll find sponging a quick and easy faux finishing technique, creating colorful walls from a dappled, mottled look to that of marble. Your design can be subtle or bold. . .
