ABOUT THE "Name that Color CONTEST"

Hirshfield's has asked Pat Verlodt, president of Color Services & Associates, Inc., an internationally recognized color consultancy, to create a palette of paint colors specially selected for us and our customers. This new collection is fresh for springtime in Minnesota and highly focused on 2010 color trends and beyond.

But what is a color -- especially a paint color -- without a name. And that's where the fun begins. For a color expert, selecting the perfect palette might be the easy part. Matching up a name that captures the essence of that color requires imagination, daring, insight and maybe some common sense.

15 new colors from Hirshfield’s Minnesota Spring 2010 Trend Color Collection need names. Simply choose a name for the colors and give a brief explanation of why you chose that color name. Winning color names will be chosen by a panel headed by Pat. Winners will be announced on our website, awarded a $100 giftcard and have a Minnesota Spring 2010 color named with their winning name.

CONTEST DATES: Entries for Hirshfield's NAME that COLOR CONTEST will be accepted on this website and in Hirshfield's stores beginning February 24, 2010 and ending on March 26, 2010. Winners will be announced in late March.

We look forward to your color names.

ABOUT THE COLOR PALETTE

"The colors I’ve selected for this Hirshfield’s paint color collection have undertones of other colors that make them complex in nature," says Pat Verlodt. "They have qualities that make them look different by each observer: some see blue undertones while others may see green or yellow. They are like chameleons -- taking on the characteristics of colors nearby. They provide the user an excellent opportunity to create wall colors that work perfectly with any of the new trend colors found in accent items and accessories.

"For this trend collection for Hirshfield’s, I’ve selected colors with personality, colors with a hidden message, colors that are mysterious and usable for today's sophisticated consumers. They work with a broader range of companion colors and coordinate with the trendiest colors showing up in the marketplace today as well as several trends that promise to be on the horizon. In other words, colors that make a statement on their own yet provide a grounded transition to those 'wow' colors that are most effectively used in measured doses and therefore easily changed -- like jewelry."
